From crime reporting to horror fiction writing

Thomas Edwards is a career newspaper editor and reporter who mostly has worked in Texas and Louisiana. He has worked for News Corp., The Hearst Corp., Clear Channel Communications, a family paper now owned by Gannett and was an infrequent contributor during his university years to the Cambrian News in Aberystwyth, Wales. Not long ago, he ran a chain of hyperlocal community papers in the San Antonio area with an audience of 120,000 readers. He is an award-winning journalist with accolades for stories ranging from investigative pieces to an exclusive interview with a mass murderer on Texas’ Death Row. Today he is the executive editor of Granite Media Partners Inc., a Texas-based media company. He is married, has two grown children and lives with his lovely French wife on a small horse farm near Austin with two equines, six cats and and a very naughty Corgi.

San Antonio’s Old World charms serve as a major backdrop in this dark, fictional battle to save the New World. It’s the tale of a seasoned crime reporter versus vampires, wrapped up in apocalyptic fear and Southern charm. You’ll want to bite into it, too, as a reader.

Brian Kirkpatrick

Texas Public Radio Reporter

Thomas Edwards has written a real page turner in his first novel, ‘Daughters Drear.’ Edwards weaves the tight tale of an old-fashioned, pipe-smoking, trench-coat wearing San Antonio Tribune reporter covering a story about bloodthirsty assailants. Reporter John Blackwood is investigating a series of unexplained events after trying to meet a source at a graveyard and is always one step ahead of well-meaning police. Edwards’ novel captures the reader by the throat as they can’t wait to see what happens next.
